Chapter 1

John Steinbeck (center) is the author of Of Mice and Men







Lennie(left) George (right) are physically opposite characters. Lennie is huge and George is small. John and Lennie are the main character of the story.

Also Lennie. Lennie is a huge guy who doesn't want to be mean, but he is a little bit insipid and forgets things.




The setting is in the Salinas River Valley





Steinbeck begins first chapter with detailed description of the setting. Then we are introduced with two physically opposite characters – George and Lennie. After George orders Lennie to stop drinking too much water from the river we recognize that George is the leader. The pair is on their way, after being dropped by bus, to the ranch to get a job. We are also introduced to the pair’s dream about having their own house, piece of land, rabbits and money. The pair sits by a river and George tells Lennie that if anything will went wrong they will meet on this exact place. The chapter ends with the pair sleeping.
