Chapter 6

Gigantic Rabbit

In the last chapter George killed Lennie.
I think that the director of the movie skiped the imagenary Aunt Clara and the gigantic rabbit, because the movie was relatively realistic and if he would put the gigantic rabbit there it would seem unrealistic.
I think that Lennie saw them because they were the two main things that he remember, the dream of tending rabbits and Aunt Clara.

When I read chapter 1 I was little bit bored but after a while I enjoyed the book, because some major problems happened. Such as the conflict between Curley and Lennie, death of Curley's wife, and the dream of having a piece of land.

Chapter 5

Lonely am I

Lonely are the nights
Lonely are the days
Lonely am I, in so many ways
Lonely are the seasons
Lonely are the years
So lonely am I, that it brings tears.
Lonely is this place
Lonely is my life
Lonely am I, that I reach for a knife
Lonely is this court room
Lonely is my sentence
So lonely am I that I ask for repentance.

I chose this poem, because I think that its related to the loneliness of Curley's wife. She is lonely for days, seasons, years...

In this chapter happened a lot of breathtaking things. Lennie killed his puppy and then Curley’s wife. I think that he didn’t want to kill anybody, because he “loves to pet nice things” and he said that he didn’t bounce the puppy hard. And with Curley’s wife he was just afraid of getting into trouble which means not to tend the rabbits and that’s an ultimate punishment for Lennie. When he tried to stop her yelling he broke her neck by mistake. After he accidently killed Curley’s wife he ran away. Candy discovered her body and told to everybody to go see it. The chapter ends with Candy and the body of dead Curley’s wife, when the men went to kill Lennie. George tried to beg Curley to don’t kill Lennie but Curley denied his try of mercy.
I think it’s not Lennie’s fault, but maybe it might be a little fault of George because he urged Lennie to don’t get into a trouble and if he gets he will not tend the rabbits, which made Lennie stressed.

Chapter 4

This picture represents loneliness. For example the loneliness of Curley's Wife or Crooks.

The chapter begins in Crooks’ room. All the other men went to the town and just Lennie, Candy, Crooks and Candy’s wife stayed at the ranch. First comes Lennie and Crooks tells him about his past and that he is lonely because he is black. Then comes Candy and they talk about the dream of having a piece of land and a house. After a while, comes Curley’s wife and all of them, the insipid, the cripple, the black and the lonely woman are in one room and talk to each other. The chapter ends when George come to Crooks’ room and orders everybody to leave.

I think that in the movie the director skipped the racism and instead of it putted loneliness of Curley’s wife, because he thought that people doesn’t want to hear about racism and rather about loneliness of pretty Curley’s wife.

Chapter 3

Whit(left) and Crooks(right) are average ranch workers. Not so much is known about them, just that Crooks is lonely because he is black

Curley's Wife is a lonely woman who is dependent on Curley.

In chapter three we are introduced to Whit and Crooks. The Candy’s dog gets shooted by Slim, and George and Lennie tell Candy about their dream. Candy replies that he has some money and that he can cook so if they don’t want him to join their dream. They agree and George tells them that he will contact the owner of their dream house. In the end of this chapter there is a conflict between Lennie and Curley. Angry Curley punchs Lennie to his face and then Lennie grabs his hand and crashes it. The chapter ends with Slim telling all of the men that Curley couch his hand in machine.
I think that Whit is considered as an average ranch worker and that Slim is higher in rank than him. I think that Curley’s wife is the lowest in the rank, because she doesn’t even have a name and is dependent on Curley. Also Crooks could be low in the rank because the men don't like to talk to him because he is black.

Chapter 2

The Boss is a character which seems to be strict but also friendly

Curley is a boxer and son of the boss, he thinks that he is higher than other because his father is boss

Candy is an one-hander caretaker

Candy's Dog is old and blind.

Carlson is and average ranch worker

Slim is a rancher, kind of similar to George

This chapter begins also with description of the setting, same as chapter 1. The setting is at the ranch.First we are introduced to one-handed caretaker named Candy. He warns George and Lennie that the boss was mad because they didn’t come last night. After a while the boss arrives and asks them few questions. One of them is why does George care too much about Lennie. George lies by replying that Lennie is his cousin and that he should take care of him. Then we are introduced to Curley and Curley’s wife. Candy warns George and Lennie that Curley is son of the boss and that he doesn’t like big guys, which Lennie is. The next two characters to be introduced are Slim and Carlson which seems to be friendly. The final character is Candy’s old and blind dog.

Chapter 1

John Steinbeck (center) is the author of Of Mice and Men

Lennie(left) George (right) are physically opposite characters. Lennie is huge and George is small. John and Lennie are the main character of the story.

Also Lennie. Lennie is a huge guy who doesn't want to be mean, but he is a little bit insipid and forgets things.

The setting is in the Salinas River Valley

Steinbeck begins first chapter with detailed description of the setting. Then we are introduced with two physically opposite characters – George and Lennie. After George orders Lennie to stop drinking too much water from the river we recognize that George is the leader. The pair is on their way, after being dropped by bus, to the ranch to get a job. We are also introduced to the pair’s dream about having their own house, piece of land, rabbits and money. The pair sits by a river and George tells Lennie that if anything will went wrong they will meet on this exact place. The chapter ends with the pair sleeping.
